A Rainy Afternoon Can Still Be an Adventure
Easy indoor adventures that make a gray day feel bright.

Rain against the window can sound like the end of a plan. It can also be the beginning of a different kind of adventure—one that needs imagination more than money.
Build a living-room expedition with pillows for mountains, a blanket for a cave and paper clues that lead to a hidden treasure. The treasure might be a favorite story, a homemade snack or the privilege of choosing the evening game.
Invite children to create their own museum. They can choose five ordinary objects, write or dictate exhibit labels, and give the grown-ups a guided tour. The stories behind the objects are often funnier than anything adults could invent.
For a quieter option, create a reading fort with flashlights and a basket of books. If energy is high, tape a winding path to the floor and challenge everyone to cross it without stepping outside the lines.
Not every moment needs to be entertaining. Boredom can leave room for creativity, and a peaceful afternoon can be memorable without becoming a production.
