We All Have That Closet
The one where everything goes when we do not know where else to put it: extra blankets, shopping bags, mysterious cords and something you bought three years ago that still has the tag attached. Eventually opening the door becomes an adventure.
You Don't Need a Whole Weekend
The thought of organizing an entire house can be overwhelming. So do not start with the entire house. Start with one shelf or small space and set a timer for thirty minutes.
The 30-Minute Plan
First five minutes: choose one shelf. Do not empty the whole closet unless you have time to finish. Next ten minutes: sort items into keep, donate, relocate and discard. Next ten minutes: wipe the shelf and group similar items together. Final five minutes: put donations by the door and return misplaced things to their homes.
Make Room for What You Use
You do not need matching baskets or expensive organizers. A clean box or a basket you already own can work. The goal is not a magazine-perfect home; it is making everyday life easier.
One Small Space at a Time
Some days you will have the energy for a big project. Other days clearing one shelf is plenty. Both count. And if the closet is not finished, you can come back tomorrow.
Reader question: What's the one closet or drawer in your home that everyone avoids opening?
